President Obama has signed a legislative package that included making permanent “qualified charitable distributions” (QCDs).
These distributions can be a convenient way to support charitable causes and get a tax break while meeting tax requirements for IRAs.
Under the renewed QCD rule, clients can have all or part of their required minimum distribution (RMD) made directly from their IRA to a qualified charity (up to $100,000 per taxpayer, per year). Unlike conventional RMDs, QCDs aren’t subject to ordinary federal income taxes.
